“The Smile of the Child” operates the European Hotline for Missing Children 116000, which provides free support to missing children and their families, while at the same time it receives anonymous and anonymous information on missing cases (runaway teenager, abduction by a third person, parental abduction, alarming disappearance) and forwards it to the competent authorities.

The Line is also Information Hub for Child Trafficking 116000 – INFO DESK

The Info Desk, which was launched in July 2014 within the framework of the European project “VICTOR”, receives complaints, provides support services to child victims/potential victims of trafficking, provides referral services to partner agencies, informs the public and promotes targeted actions aimed at vulnerable groups of people, with the aim of raising awareness and preventing the phenomenon.

The INFO DESK, based on the European Missing Children’s Hotline 116000 managed by “The Smile of the Child”, is being promoted as good practice in other European countries.

The 116000 line is staffed exclusively by specialised Social Workers and Psychologists and is available nationwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Calls to the 116000 Line are free of charge from fixed and mobile phones, from a payphone NO telecard is required, while calling from a payphone does not require available credits.

In addΙtion, 116000 is interconnected with 112, the European Emergency Number and is part of the Child Helpline International network.

116000 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at operational level:

– the “Thanasis Makris” Search & Rescue Team with the participation of certified Canine Teams

– A large number of specialised technical equipment (jeeps, ATVs, motorbikes, ambulances)

– the “Odysseus” Mobile Operations Centre

The 116000 Line is also interconnected with the SAWA Helpline in Palestine, is also a member of the international network of Child Helpline International (CHI) and serves as an interpreter for Arabic-speaking persons in our country.

“The Smile of the Child” has been operating the European Missing Children’s Helpline 116000 since 2007 after being numbered by EETT (National Telecommunications and Postal Commission).
