Doctors of the World - Greece

Website

Doctors of the World Greece was founded in 1990. It is an independent Medical, Humanitarian, Voluntary Organization, a member of the International Network of Doctors of the World which consists of 17 national delegations: Argentina, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, USA, Japan, Spain, Canada, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey. A driving principle of the organization is that every person has the right to humanitarian aid, regardless of gender, origin, sexual orientation, religion, ideology or political belief.

Since the beginning of their activity, Doctors of the World Greece have created a number of programs, both inside the country and abroad, with the aim of providing medical care to our fellow human beings and to population groups with limited or no access to health and welfare services, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid to those affected by emergency situations such as survivors of violence, war and natural disasters. At the same time, beyond the context of medical care but always relying on medical experience, the organization remains faithful to the citizens' right to equal opportunities, trying to ensure conditions for the gradual reintegration into society of people who for whatever reason found themselves on the sidelines, through integrated services of psychosocial support and interconnection with other health, welfare, legal aid and social integration services.

The Doctors of the World of Greece do not hesitate to speak openly against the obstruction of access to health and against the violation of human rights and human dignity, pointing out the dangers of similar violations, either through silent diplomacy or through their intervention in the media. The actions of Doctors of the World Greece are mainly directed at needy, homeless, uninsured people, including immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees, unaccompanied children, drug users and any person who is in conditions of poverty and social exclusion.
