Description

True to the principle of respect for human dignity, APOSTOLI has taken a number of initiatives to alleviate the plight of refugees. Since 2016, it has been active in the field of education, offering non-formal education programs to refugee children living in refugee accommodation structures and urban centers in mainland Greece, while in Athens operates the Education Center for Children of the World, exercising the right of every child to education.

Responding to the needs of preparation and support of children for the Greek public school, the Education Center for the Children of the World in Athens offers daily from October 2017 the comprehensive non-formal education program “Supporting Refugee Children and Youth’s Resilience Through the Provision of Non-Formal Education and Psychosocial Support” to 132 children aged 6-17 years.

Teachers, social service and interpreters-cultural mediators have created a safe and creative environment for children and adolescents. At the same time, in a logic of integration and integration of the refugee community, the Center offers language and empowerment courses to adults, mostly to parents. More than 45 men and 36 women participate in the daily adult education program. The integration of parents in the educational process is considered crucial for the achievement of both teachers and the goals of integration. By offering a protection network for everyone, we enjoy better results in the educational process.

The training program includes:

  • Greek and English lessons for everyone
  • Distance learning Greek and English lessons for teenagers and adults
  • Department for foreign students, enrolled in Secondary education, which aims to learn and/or strengthen the Greek language
  • Development of Social Skills & Life Skills, as well as Vocational Skills seminars
  • Vocational Consulting
  • Psychosocial support for women

The respective educational programs of APOSTOLI for refugees are supported by international organizations, such as the European Commission, UNICEF, Finn Church Aid, Church of Sweden, Teachers Without Borders, etc. The program “Supporting Refugee Children and Youth’s Resilience Through the Provision of Non-Formal Education and Psychosocial Support” is implemented with the support of the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).
