Intercultural Center PYXIDA

Description

At the intercultural center PYXIDA we offer Greek language learning courses to any refugee or immigrant, adult, minor, recognized, applicant or not. In addition to the courses we offer a creative writing section for adults, counseling for both adults and minors.

In addition, for children and parents, we have designed psycho-educational activities with the aim of empowering, thereby assisting their social integration.

In addition, all our services are combined with the rest of the services of the GCR, namely the legal department, employment counselors and other social services departments, such as the departments of victims of sexual or gender-based violence, unaccompanied minors and victims of torture.

Additional educational activities

PYXIDA beneficiries are informed and assisted in the process of submitting applications for the admission of foreigners to universities, as well as in their enrollment in evening EPAL with reception classes, in order to take advantage of the relevant opportunities, but also for the submission of applications for the language tests.

Social support

The Social Service of PYXIDAS supports families with the enrollment of children in Public Education, providing and where deemed necessary Counseling Support to families, referrals for medical issues as well as follow-ups with school principals and teachers.

Child Psychological Support

PYXIDA provides psychological support and counseling services for children aged 4 to 17 and their parents. These services include: diagnostic testing and assessment of the needs of each child and family, individual psychological support sessions, group psychological support sessions with the aim of improving socialization, strengthening and strengthening mental resilience as well as parent counseling. Finally, referrals and cooperation with external health units and other mental health agencies are carried out, where this is deemed necessary. The interdisciplinary collaboration with the Social Service and the teachers of PYXIDAS is a necessity for the implementation of an individualized intervention plan for each child and each family. The action is supported by Fidelity Charitable.

Work Consulting

The PIXIDA Employment Office “Cosmos Employment Hub” continues to connect the beneficiaries of the ESP with the labor market, through the large list of employers that it maintains and constantly increases, and to be present when deemed necessary in all steps of the preparation of prospective employees, including the preparation of the person for the interview and consultation with the employers. In collaboration with the Trafigura Foundation, an intensive pro employment preparation program is carried out, which includes Employment Greek courses for adults who have already mastered the A1 level in the Greek language, job counseling and direct connection to the labor market.

Helping Hands Joined

The volunteer program Helping Hands Joined has a purely inclusive nature and includes guided tours of the city of Athens for refugees by Greek volunteers. Families can also take part in this program, so that they can follow the tour of the Museums and Archaeological sites of Athens, as well as participate in the camps organized by the PYXIDAS educational team. This last action takes place in the context of “THESAURUS II- Engaging the Community”, with the kind sponsorship of the Alta Mane Foundation.
