Municipality of Athens: Seven air-conditioned areas are opening to protect citizens from the heat

Due to the expected high temperatures, the Municipality of Athens has seven (7) air-conditioned rooms for the protection of citizens from Friday, July 22, and until the end of the phenomenon.

The air-conditioned areas, which will operate from 08.00 am to 08.00 pm, are as follows:

For the best service, interested parties should first contact either the Friendship Club they are interested in directly, or the Citizen Service Line 1595, or the call center 2105277000. At the same time, a helpline has been put into operation by the Municipal Clinics of the Municipality of Athens, through which information is provided to support the residents of the city (2103638049 8:30-19:30).

In the premises, all hygiene and safety rules under the instructions of the National Public Health Organization (EODY) for Covid-19 will be strictly observed. The use of a mask will be mandatory throughout the citizens’ stay in the area, while there will be sufficient natural ventilation and an antiseptic solution to further protect the citizens.

Also, the street work teams of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.D.A.) will continue their work throughout the heatwave, giving the city’s homeless population the necessary instructions for protect them from the heat. At the same time, they will offer them cool water, basic necessities and first aid, while they will inform them about the operation of the air-conditioned spaces provided by the Municipality.

 

CATEGORY 1 (Monday 25/07)

Very high temperatures. Follow the instructions and avoid prolonged exposure to heat. Notify vulnerable people

  • Those over 65, young children, nursing and pregnant women, people with underlying medical conditions and outdoor workers are most at risk. Take care of them!
  • Stay hydrated and seek shade and coolness
  • Avoid coffees, drinks and soft drinks
  • Take refuge in an air-conditioned space for at least 2-3 hours a day
  • Take frequent cool showers at regular intervals throughout the day
  • Don’t forget to keep our four-legged friends cool and hydrated
  • If possible stay at home and don’t go out during the hot hours of the day:  11.00 am- 6.00 pm

 

CATEGORY 2 (Tuesday 26/07 and Wednesday 27/07)

Extremely high temperatures. Health hazard. Take precautions. Prepare to help vulnerable people.

  • Avoid going outside during the hot hours of the day: 11.00 am – 6.00 pm
  • Those over 65, young children, nursing and pregnant women, people with underlying medical conditions and outdoor workers are most at risk. Check them often: Pay close attention to potential symptoms and behavioral changes!
  • Stay hydrated and seek shade and coolness
  • Avoid coffees, drinks and soft drinks
  • Take refuge in an air-conditioned space for at least 2-3 hours a day
  • Take frequent cool showers at regular intervals
  • Check on elderly neighbors who live alone often (at least 2-3 times a day)
