A Step Forward - Reception Center for Asylum Seekers, Vulnerable Women and Mothers with Children

The project “A Step Forward” Open Accommodation Center for vulnerable women seeking asylum and their children is implemented through the cooperation between the Secretariat of Migration of Switzerland, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum of Greece and Doctors of the World, in the framework “Cooperation Program Switzerland-Greece 2023-2026” for the reduction of economic and social inequalities.

The structure has a total of 44 places and houses vulnerable applicants for international protection, single women and single mothers with their children.

On a daily basis, basic material needs and personal hygiene needs are covered.

The facility has a WiFi internet connection for all beneficiaries.

At the same time, comprehensive health services, psychosocial support, legal counseling, interpretation, language skills, empowerment, creative employment and remedial teaching are provided on a daily basis, while children are enrolled in the public education system in collaboration with the Municipal Nursery of Athens and local schools.

The structure has specially designed areas for dining and leisure activities while being within walking distance of a Metro station and bus stops.
