Description
In the context of the social work of K.Y.A.D.A. interdisciplinary teams approach homeless people on the street (Street Work), document their needs on an individual basis and inform them about the accommodation structures and available programs, developing relationships of trust with them. Social workers, nurses, psychologists and doctors, assisted by drivers and administrative staff, are daily on the streets of the city morning and night, with six shifts a day, under the scientific responsibility of a psychiatrist. During the field interventions the teams map the places where the homeless are, provide immediate, practical help (food, clothes, bedding) and refer to medical and social services. At the same time, they provide primary nursing support, where this is deemed necessary. Through close cooperation and interconnection, they ensure that each of our homeless fellow citizens finds the appropriate support framework, joins accomodation structures and takes the next step in his/her life.
In periods of cold or heat, the teams distribute suitable clothing, meals and drinks during the interventions and provide the homeless with information about the rooms available by the Municipality for their protection. Also in extreme weather conditions, K.Y.A.D.A. is on alert at multiple levels and carries out on-site interventions according to them, in the places indicated by the citizens of Athens, through 1595, but also to all the homeless people who have been identified during their on-site interventions by the streetwork teams.
Method of Referral/Participation
After on-site identification and/or telephone or written communication, instructions are given and the persons served are invited to come to the social service.
