The City of Athens, through the Migrant Integration Center, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, implements free preparation seminars for the Ministry of Interior Naturalization Certificate of Knowledge Proficiency Exams.
The free preparation seminars for the naturalization exams are a successful practice of the City of Athens, which was implemented for the first time in 2021 through the Migrant Integration Center (KEM) with the contribution of the award-winning author Soti Triantafillou, continued with the voluntary contribution of the Theater of Change and now it is strengthened with the cooperation of the “Bridges” volunteer group that has many years of experience in intercultural education.
What are naturalization exams?
In 2020, the Certificate of Knowledge Proficiency for Naturalization (C.E.G.P) was instituted, the acquisition of which is a prerequisite for the submission of the naturalization application. Allogeneic foreigners, who meet the conditions for obtaining Greek citizenship through the naturalization process, take exams to obtain the certificate. After the successful completion of this process, candidates have the opportunity to submit their naturalization application for consideration.
The written exams, which were first implemented in May 2021 and replaced the oral exam system, are organized twice a year. Candidates are tested on their understanding and production of spoken and written language, on elements of Greek history and geography, Greek culture and the country’s political institutions.
Those interested in registering for the courses, which are held remotely, as well as those who wish to become members of the group of volunteer instructors, can send an email to [email protected].
