The PRAKSIS Association with the funding and support of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as of January 2023, has started the implementation
of a new project in Athens and Thessaloniki, with the primary objective of enhancing the
protection environment of asylum seeking and refugee children.
Interdisciplinary teams have been established as part of the project in the PRAKSIS’
structures in Athens and Thessaloniki in order to welcome and support children at risk, as
per the following:
 New born babies in families.
 Underage pregnant girls.
 Children in single-parent families.
 Accompanied children facing health issues.
 Caregivers of separated children: elderly people, siblings, separated children.
 Children survivors of torture, rape or other serious forms of psychological, physical
or sexual violence or exploitation (including caregivers).
 Accompanied children of whom their families have been reported to NGOs or
authorities for potential exploitation, neglect or abuse.
At the core of the project, there is pilot therapeutic intervention for children survivors of
GBV. The outcome of the intervention will form the basis for a proposed psychotherapeutic
methodology as part of the National Action Plan for the Protection of Children from Sexual
Abuse and Exploitation.
