Website

The purpose of the Association is to provide comprehensive care and support services to unaccompanied minors and young refugees - asylum seekers, coming from countries affected by wars and disasters. The young guests obtain legal residence documents, are trained and prepared in order to integrate as much as possible in Greek society, in the event that reconnection with their family is not achieved.

The aim of the organization is to cover all the needs of the guests based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the relevant laws and the Agreements of the European Union but also any relevant Recommendation and Directive of the European Commission.

The Association was founded in 1924 with the first name: "Protection of women prisoners and minors". The initiative for its establishment and for the hostel, a year later, was taken by the National Council of Greek Women, while the first main donor was Emmanuel Benakis. He kept the specific object and the original title until 1972, when he acquired the title ASSOCIATION OF MINORS AND YOUNG PEOPLE and his work focused on the protection of minors (Decision 1986 / 25.04.1972 of the Athens Court of First Instance). In 2003 the aims and actions of the Athens Society for the Protection of Minors were incorporated into those of the Association for the Care of Minors and Youth.

Since 1980, the Adolescent Station, today "Unaccompanied Minors Station", operates in Exarchia, in a privately owned neoclassical building. Over time, the work of the Association was adapted and called to meet the current social needs always through specialized, modern and high quality services with the main characteristics of respect for human rights and family care. To date, more than 2,500 young people of various social needs and nationalities have been hosted at the Adolescent Station, a hospitality structure that operates under the supervision of a seven-member council. In recent years, its capacity is 17 seats, while the teenagers who are hosted in the privately owned neoclassical house in Exarchia are unaccompanied minors from countries that have been affected by wars and disasters.

In November 2015, the Association, following the expansion of its activities for the rehabilitation and smooth social and professional integration of the children it already hosts, undertook the reconstruction and support of a model Guesthouse - Youth Center for Refugees - in Athens for housing and support for young refugees (former unaccompanied minors, asylum seekers). The Guesthouse has been operating since August 2016 in the building of the Association at 124 Aristotelous Street in the center of Athens and accommodates 25 asylum seekers / refugees.
