Description

Babel’s interdisciplinary group, in collaboration with volunteers and language facilitators, provide wide-ranging services for the beneficiaries, including:

  • Diagnosis, needs’ assessment, functionality assessment, resilience/ vulnerability assessment
  • Psychiatric treatment
  • Psychological support
  • Counseling and psychotherapy (most members of Babel’s interdisciplinary group have been trained or are being trained in psychotherapeutic techniques –systemic, psychoanalytic, schema therapy)
  • Connection to services, escort, mediation
  • Psychosocial rehabilitation

Interpretation is available for beneficiaries who do not speak Greek; specially trained linguistic facilitators are participating in the sessions. Babel’s professionals are capable of leading sessions in English, French, Arabic, Italian and Spanish.

From October 1, 2023 and for one year, these services will be provided with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), as the action was included in the SNF-Release Athens donation program, within the framework of the International Health Initiative (IHI) of the SNF .
In addition to the provision of specialized services, the SNF’s support extends to covering costs for carrying out publicity and awareness campaigns for persons in key positions, training professionals in issues of locating and mobilizing survivors, and supervising Babel staff.

 

Participation/referral information

Access to the mental health services at Babel Day Centre can be achieved:

  • In the case of an adult, either by contacting the Centre through telephone or by walking in the Centre without need for an already scheduled appointment. If, for any reason, the individual cannot be served immediately, his or her contact details will be kept and the Centre’s professionals will contact him or her to schedule an appointment.
  • In the case of a minor, the referral must be conducted by the legal guardians in the above mentioned ways. If the minor is unaccompanied, the referral can be made by any organization (eg shelter for UAM, social services, etc.) or by the legally appointed guardian.

People interested in receiving these services due to experiences of torture and violence can contact Babel either in person or by phone (2108616266, 2108616280) from Monday to Friday between 09.30-16.00 where a specialized professional will receive the request and inform about the programming of the first clinical meeting.

It is important to point out that, according to Babel’s philosophy, support takes different forms, depending on the needs of each individual person and the support plan that will be co-formed.
