Global Compact on Refugees: Athens at the meeting on contributions made by cities towards achieving GCR’s objectives
Athens participated in the virtual meeting, co-organized by UNHCR and the Steering Committee of the Global Task Force on Migration (GTFM), that was held on 22 September 2021 to discuss contributions made by cities towards achieving the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR). The City of Athens was represented at political level by the Executive Advisor for Migrants and Refugees, Ms Melina Daskalakis.
The service mapping led by the ACCMR during the COVID-19 crisis and the EU program Curing the Limbo, were presented as best practices. Here you will find an interesting leaflet with good practices developed by cities from all over the world, including Athens, Karditsa, Heraklion, Ioannina and Larissa, Cities Network for Integration (CNI) members.
The purpose of the Global Compact on Refugees event was to review ongoing and future pledges, initiatives and support needed to strengthen cooperation in refugee responses and translate the Global Compact on Refugees into concrete improvements in the lives of refugees and the communities that host them.
The outcome of this technical-level event will be shared at the High-Level Officials Meeting (HLOM) on 14 and 15 December 2021 in Geneva. The HLOM will bring together senior government officials and stakeholder groups to maintain momentum towards achieving the objectives of the GCR.
