Information that protects and empowers

Refugee.Info is a project that started in Greece in 2015 and is jointly run by the organizations International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps. It’s an innovative project that applies communicating with communities principles and values in empowering vulnerable populations to make choices that protect themselves, their families and each other.

Refugee.Info is an accessible, adaptable, human-centered digital information project that focuses on delivering timely, vetted and accurate information to crisis-affected populations on asylum procedures, documents, rights and obligations, health, education, integration, available services and events. In Greece, it provides information in 5 languages (English, Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and French) on a website (https://www.refugee.info/greece/) and a dynamic Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/refugee.info/) with more than 100.000 followers.

Our team interacts with and answers questions from the refugee community on social media through peer moderators, all refugees themselves who speak the same languages as our users and who are trained in humanitarian protection principles.

On the Refugee.Info platforms refugees and asylum-seekers could find information about:
• Mainland and islands asylum procedure
• Documents, legal rights and obligations
• Family Reunification
• Accommodation
• Education
• Financial Assistance
• Work, health care, education and social activities, etc.

A very well-updated and detailed service map is also available on the Refugee.Info website (https://www.refugee.info/greece/services/) covering most areas of Greece. Users could find detailed information on different services (legal, medical, educational, language courses, community centers, etc.), and guidance on how to reach them through geo-location features.

Through the Refugee.Info Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/refugee.info/) and the Facebook Messenger platform (http://m.me/refugee.info), the Refugee.Info Greece team receives and responds to questions on all the above mentioned categories and refers users to the appropriate services, depending on the need
