More than 22% among individuals in Greece faced barriers to accessing health services in 2023 due to costs, such as the access to the medicine they need. The paradox however is that at the same time, over 40,000,000 packs of medicine expire in households and are thrown away each year. Additionally, extensive amounts of medicine are destroyed due to forthcoming expiration dates, thus discrediting their value as a social asset. GIVMED | Share medicine Share life, is a non-profit organization that ensures the access of socially vulnerable groups to the medicine they need (elderly, children, poor, refugees, mental health conditions etc.). The organization was established in 2016 and till now has dispensed more than 809,203 packs of medicine and hygiene products, worth 8,350,790 euros through a network of 198 beneficiary donation points.
The goal of this organization is accelerated with activities which build upon four axes:
GIVMED has been honored in global innovation awards, collaborated with important organizations such as the Medical School of Athens, the National Bank of Greece, the TIMA public benefit foundation, the Ioannis S. Latsis public benefit foundation, The Hellenic Initiative, among others, and broadcasted in major media in Greece and abroad (BBC, ERT, ALPHA, Kathimerini, ETHNOS). GIVMED is also among the few NGOs invited by the 2023 UN Meeting on Universal Health Coverage.
