Τhe MultiFunctional Centre is a social centre that works with a holistic approach to deliver a 360 degree range of services and support to refugees and asylum seekers to help them cope with their current situation through counselling and guidance on their way through procedures and available services. 

For recognised refugees and other migrants, the MFC provide services and guidance to support them on their journey to more effectively integrate into Greek society – including obtaining the necessary registration and documentation in order to be eligible for employment and access social services, education and medical care in the Greek society. The approach of the services provided from the MFC aims to build the migrants’ resilience and empower them to reassess their individual needs and make their own choices; in order to regain their own autonomy in everyday living.

1. HOTLINE:

Information is offered for the following issues:

Information on the current refugee situation and their rights, issues regarding material support, housing and medical issues, translation and interpretation, medical care information and referral, mediation and facilitation of the communication between refugees and authorities/non-governmental organizations/public services, information concerning the Cash Transfer Program, legal support, information and facilitation regarding family reunification issues.

2. PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT: MFC provides individualized social casework to refugees and migrants, assisting them in their daily choices and helping them acclimatize to their new host country. Organizing an appointment with the social worker is very easy, either by contacting the Hotline or by visiting the centre and requesting an appointment through the self-referral forms located in the Social area. Refugees can reach the social worker for food and non-food items, referral for medical treatment, referral for housing, enrolments in public schools and others. In collaboration with the Migrant Advice Bureau Service of the MFC, legal information on rights and procedures of migrants and refugees is offered.

3. SOCIAL AREA - 1st Floor: The social area is one of the vital areas of the MFC. Our reception and the Hotline team assist refugees and migrants answering their questions. The Social Area is a place where refugees and migrants, apart from waiting for their appointments with one of our Services, can come and enjoy the free Wi-Fi or maybe read a book or chat with a friend without a prior appointment. In the Social Area parents can find a Children’s Corner, where together with their children they can enjoy playing and spending some quality family time. The social area includes a Play Space for kids, where parents can enjoy playing with their children and have quality family time.

4. LANGUAGE COURSES (GREEK AND ENGLISH): At the MFC there is a program of Greek and English language courses for adults that is facilitated by specially trained professors, with a long experience in teaching languages for adults in a multicultural context. Each course cycle has a duration of two months and there are different levels on each group (beginners, intermediate, advanced).

Registrations start on Monday 8 July and will last until the end of August. Registrations will take place on the first floor of the Multifunctional Centre for Refugees of the Hellenic Red Cross every Monday and Wednesday from 09.00 to 13.00.

 

5. EMPLOYABILITY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM: The Employability Preparedness Program is a new activity that takes place in the MFC, which aims in helping those interested in seeking employment in Greece or other countries within the European Union, in order to understand the employment setting (procedures, rules, qualifications etc), enhance the understanding of basic principles related to employability and generally obtain the right tools for them to be able to move in seeking employment with confidence.

Registrations for the Fast Track Employability Preparedness Program will be carried out until August 2nd each Tuesday and Thursday from 09.00 to 13.00 on the first floor of the Multifunctional Center for Refugees
