Rhizome Cities Network: Athens celebrates diversity and highlights the power of art and culture connecting us
The City of Athens and the Rhizome Cities Network are organizing the event “A city that celebrates diversity – Art and culture as a powerful medium for integration” on Wednesday, July 19 at 2 p.m. at Innovathens in Technopolis.
Saying goodbye to a year in which intercultural activities, visits to museums, concerts and theaters, but also the production of art itself constituted a key means for the creative and meaningful coexistence of communities in the city, the City of Athens invites partner cities from abroad, international organizations, civil society stakeholders and refugee communities to reflect together and exchange ideas and good practices.
Representatives of European cities, the Refugee Week Greece Festival, the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Greek Forum for Refugees (TBC) will participate in the event.
The event is part of the 4th meeting of the Rhizome Cities Network, which Athens is hosting from July 18 to 20.
The City of Athens participates in the Network through the Department of Support and Social Integration of Migrants and Refugees within the European project “Rhizomatic Cities Network Project”. The project, implemented by the “Fondazione Studio Rhizoma” in collaboration with the Municipality of Palermo from spring 2022 to autumn 2023, aims to promote the cooperation of cities and cultural institutions of Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa through the prism of decolonization. The participating cities are Athens, Bergamo, Braga, Dusseldorf, Marseille, Manheim, Montpellier and Reggio Calabria.
