The HOME Project
The HOME Project is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded in December 2016 and provides shelter and support to refugee and migrant children who arrive in Greece alone.
Standing for ‘Help, Overcome, Motivate, and Empower’, The HOME Project’s mission is multidimensional: First, to bring unaccompanied minors to safety in dedicated shelters where they will receive a holistic network of services including educational, psychopaedagogical, legal, medical and social integration services and care. Second, to source, refurbish, and convert unused buildings into shelters, bringing them back to life and into good use. Third, through the conversion, refurbishment, and ongoing operation of these shelters it is creating employment, for Greeks as well as for the refugee and migrant population.
In its two years of operation, The HOME Project has housed more than 300 children in 11 homes and has created more than 130 jobs.
At present, of the refugees and migrants in Greece, more than 3,400 are unaccompanied minors. Of those, more than 2,400 are homeless and living on the streets, in camps, detention centers; all at risk of violence, sexual abuse, exploitation and organ trafficking.
