Art and Action Network - Balloon People
The Art and Action Network was created in July 2015 by an association of teachers and artists to offer "First Aid Education" to refugee children.
Until July 2016, group's members were almost on a daily basis near children, creating a kind of "outdoor school" within the existing structures. Starting from Pedion tou Areos, educational activities and actions of empowerment through Art have been extended to Eleonas Refugee Camp, at the port of Piraeus E1 gate, at the arrivals of Ellinikon and at the unacompanied minors shelter of Praxis plus, in Edomeni etc.
Empowerment through Art initiaves at present cover a wide range of vulnerable social groups. In 2016 and 2017, visual arts and animation workshops were organized for prisoners at the Korydallos Prison Hospital (seropositive men's section), for homeless people in Athens, for female sexworkers at the Positive Voice's social structure "Red Umbrella", etc. Our initiatives are being supported by a wide network of cizens.
As visual artists, we are organizing the 'Xenos Project' on an annual basis, where members and fine arts artists are invited to create art pieces about diversity, hate speech, gender violence, etc.
Finally, the Art and Action Network organizes the School Street Art Festival of Art and Acceptance, which takes place in October 2017, at the Kerameikos pedestrian area.
