World Refugee Day with a picnic in the park, sports, workshops, exhibitions, music
The Refugee Week Greece festival and the “Interculturality and Communities of the City” team of the Athens Municipal Coordination Centre for Migrants and Refugees | ACCMR, organize on World Refugee Day, with the participation of 30 organizations that support integration in the city, a big celebration for children and adults at ΚΑΠΑΨ Park.
The festival, which is under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens, returns for the third year with this year’s theme “Our Home”, recognizing that everyone, both those who are just arriving in our cities and those who have been living in them for many years, need to have access to shelter. At the same time, it wants to highlight the resilience, diversity and creativity of people who have experienced forced displacement.
In this context, on Thursday 20 June from 5 pm to 10 pm, we invite old and young residents of the city and the neighbourhood to participate in an intercultural picnic around which colourful actions will “come alive”, focusing on the need of all people for equal access to a safe place they can call “Home”.
The meeting point is the “ΚΑΠΑΨ Park for Children and Culture“, a public space of great social and cultural value for the neighborhood and its people, just 8 minutes walk from Panormos Metro Station. A spot in the city, not chosen by chance, as the action aims to send another message about the need to appropriate and upgrade the public space, our great Home, which fits us all.
The program includes activities for children and teenagers, workshops, exhibitions, skate, Hip Hop, crafts, sports, food and live music by the Revma group, the Polyphonic Singing Group of Natalia Labadaki and the band “Pyrofania”.
The organisations involved in the action are: Libraries of the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA), French Institute, International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the framework of the HELIOS program, Network for the Rights of the Child, Hellenic Olympic Committee, Hellenic Wrestling Federation, Greek Forum of Immigrants, Greek Forum of Refugees, Union of Ukrainian Women in Greece, Center for the Integration of Immigrants of the Municipality of Athens, METAdrasi, Myrtillo Café, Organization Earth, Athens Municipality Coordination Centre for Migrants and Refugees (ACCMR), KINSEP Isida, KINSEP Pigi, Cultural Association of Ano Ampelokipoi, Cultural Association of Ano Ampelokipoi, MSc “Global Health – Disaster Medicine” of the School of Medicine of the University of Athens, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Athens Comics Library, Diversity United, Free Movement Skateboard, Hip Hop 4 Hope, London Metropolitan University (UK), LUZ Visual Studies, PRAKSIS, Refugee Week Greece, SolidarityNow, Yoga and Sports with Refugees, Connect by music Ritsona camp.

Refugee Week Without Plastics!
Did you know that most plastics can only be recycled 2 to 3 times because their quality deteriorates each time the material is recycled?
One way to reduce our single-use plastic consumption is with reusable utensils for our water and coffee. Bring your picnic basket, your canteens & lots of fun! Water and beverages will be available at the Myrtillo cafe area!
