Asylum Service’s animated videos for unaccompanied minors

On the occasion of the World Refugee Day 2019, the Asylum Service is publishing a number of animated videos based on the Service’s information leaflet for unaccompanied minors. These videos – released in 6 different languages – were produced in close collaboration with the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), to whom we are grateful for funding the project.

In 2018 the Asylum Service registered 2,639 applications for international protection by unaccompanied minors. During the first quarter of 2019 the number of applications submitted by unaccompanied minors reached 893. These children, who often leave their country of origin due to situations of conflicts and generalized violence, are considered to be an extremely vulnerable group. All EU Member States should pay particular attention to this group in compliance with their international obligations, as derived from the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. One of the Service’s main tasks is to ensure the unaccompanied minors’ right to credible and reliable information, the lack of which may negatively affect children’s rights, such as the right to family unity.

To this end and on the occasion of the World Refugee Day 2019, the Asylum Service is publishing a number of animated videos based on the Service’s information leaflet for unaccompanied minors. These videos – released in 6 different languages – were produced in close collaboration with the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), to whom we are grateful for funding the project.

By choosing to produce animated videos and post them on the internet, the Service aims at making the information directly accessible and child-friendly with the ultimate goal to protect the interests of unaccompanied minors.
